Cambridge University Paediatrics Society is running revision sessions for paediatrics! The sessions will be taught by current stage 3s and plan to cover all the key topics in 3 short sessions. Particularly useful revision for stage 2s and any keen stage 1s! If it's a while since you've had much interaction with little ones, or you're still unsure what you're expected to do when faced with a toddler, some blocks and some crayons then these are not to be missed!

Cambridge University Paediatric Society invite you to the second National Cambridge Paediatric Conference that will be held on the 28th February 2015!

Following on from last years success the committee have worked hard, to provide a perfect blend of stimulating talks, workshops and career advice. There will also be a chance to present your research in our poster competition!

Past Event: Challenging Problems in Paediatric Urology
A talk by Bob Whitaker

Bob Whitaker shares unique slides from his career in paediatric urology... mention of a 'wonky willy' or two is probable but not guaranteed!

'Although I have been retired from paediatric urology for a fair number of years now, many of the problems that I faced in practice are still challenging others today. These include the need to operate on hydronephrosis found on prenatal scanning, the severe obstruction cause by posterior urethral valves in infant boys, renal failure secondary to infected vesicoureteric reflux, to name just of few. So many of these and other conditions are due to faulty embryological development and I find this as good a reason as any to study embryology carefully!'

Past Event: Keeping a cool head
What to do with the baby, who is not breathing

Brain injury in the newborn is a major cause of death and lifelong neurodisability placing an enormous burden on patients, their families and wider society. Dr. Austin is a Consultant Neonatologist at Addenbrookes, whose research has focused on the concept of inducing hypothermia onto hypoxic neonates to preserve cognitive function, which may otherwise be drastically reduced in ischaemic brain injury.

An Academic Specialty Insight Evening

This month, we are privileged to have Dr. Matt Zilbauer, a Paediatric Gastroenterologist, telling us about the exciting life of an academic paediatrician. Dr. Zilbauer is a University researcher and practicing clinician in the field of immunology and inflammatory bowel diseases in children. Coming with him will be a number of paediatric ACF's, who will tell us a bit about how they've gotten to where they are.

This year we hosted our first ever National Paediatric Conference within our very own Cambridge Clinical School. A day packed with excellent speakers covering all aspects of paediatrics, practical workshops and student poster presentations. We had an excellent time and cannot wait to see you all again at next years, which we hope to be bigger and even better than the first. Watch this space!
