The RCPCH President, who has been in the role for nearly three years, has been vocal in her belief that child health outcomes in the UK are not as good as they should be - calling for new ways of delivering care in 'child health hubs', all GPs
to be trained in child health and fewer, more specialist centres of care.

Dr Kelsall

Head of the East of England School of Paediatrics and Child Health

Dr. Wilf Kelsall is the regional lead for paediatric cardiology and has an active research interest in the management of patent ductus arteriosus.

Dr Williams

Component Chair for Cambridge University Paediatrics MB Final Examinations

Dr Rachel Williams is a Consultant in Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology with a specialist interest in the management of insulin resistant diabetes in children and adolescents. She studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh prior to undertaking her clinical paediatric training in Liverpool and Cambridge. She joined the team as a Consultant in January 2013 and has research expertise in the quantification of insulin resistance in a number of conditions including Severe Insulin Resistance.

Dr Firth

Co-author of Oxford Desk Reference Clinical Genetics and Oxford Handbook of Genetics

Helen Firth is a Consultant Clinical Geneticist at Cambridge University Hospitals Trust. Since 2004, Helen has collaborated with researchers at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and elsewhere to investigate how the application of new genomic technologies can improve the diagnosis of severe developmental disorders. Helen has been central to the development of the DECIPHER database and Deciphering Developmental Disorders (DDD) project.

Dr Russell

Executive committee member of the British Paediatric Respiratory Society and Chair of the Paediatric Section of the European Respiratory Society

Having trained in Cambridge and London, Dr Ross Russell started work at Addenbrooke's Hospital as a consultant in 1992. He established the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) developing an 8 bedded general PICU that admits ~450 children each year. Dr Ross Russell has maintained an active regional role in the provision of intensive care, writing regional reports on intensive care and establishing regional audit. The unit is now supported by 6 consultants.

Dr Allison Ward

Workshop Speaker- Cyber Bullying

Allison Ward is a final year Paediatric SpR in the the London Deanery, working predominantly in Community Child Health. Her sub-speciality interests include safeguarding children, medical education and supporting trainees. She is also a lecturer for the Ask Dr Clarke Paediatrics Course.

Dr Boo Messahel

Workshop Speaker- Palliative Care

Dr Boo Messahel is a childhood and teenage cancer specialist working at Addenbrooke's hospital providing a service for all children and teenagers in the East of England. She has a particular interest in renal tumours and is a member of both the National and European Renal Tumours in children group.

Dr Parker

Workshop Speaker- Neurological Workshop

Dr Alasdair Parker was appointed as a consultant in paediatric neurology, at Addenbrooke’s Hospital from 2000. He was regional lead within the field from 2002 until 2012. He has previously initiated the clinical services in neuromuscular disorders as well as the rehabilitation of children following acute brain injury. He has published extensively on childhood epilepsies, and more recent publications in process include those on microcephaly, tuberous sclerosis and intracranial hypertension.
