Maths

This is where you will find my maths things.

My research interests are in analytic number theory and additive combinatorics.  For example, I am interested in Waring's problem and possible generalisations.  I have written a short introduction to Waring's problem for non-mathematicians.  There are two versions: I prefer the slightly longer version, but there is also a shorter version for people in a hurry.

I have recently started a new blog, Theorem of the week, aimed at people who are not expert mathematicians.  If you look at the site, please feel free to leave a comment!

I have a separate page listing talks that I've given and conferences that I've attended.

Here are some links to mathematical organisations in which I am involved in some way, or that I have found useful or interesting:

Here are some links to homepages of interesting mathematicians. Tim Austin, James Cranch, Tim Gowers (who also has a blog), Ben Green, David Loeffler, Lilian Matthiesen, Sean Prendiville, Tom Sanders, Olof Sisask, Julia Wolf.  I also like reading Terry Tao's blog.

Here are links to some of the articles that I wrote (or to which I contributed) during the summers of 2005 and 2006 for NRICH.

Modular Arithmetic

Introductory Number Theory

The Chinese Remainder Theorem

Mathematical Induction

Proof by Contradiction (actually, Katy wrote this one, and I contributed a very small amount)

Introduction to Differentiation

Euler's Formula

Grouping Transformations (I strongly encourage you to try the problems before reading this article; there are links to them at the start of the article)

I'd be glad to receive any comments that readers may have; in particular, I'd be grateful for any suggestions of improvements.
