STRANGE BLUE NEWS

Tryouts - What next.
Posted: 21.JAN.2007

All

First of all, huge thanks to all who came to tryouts this weekend - it was great to see so many people and so much potential. It's clear that we're not only going to have a great squad, but also lots of people knocking on the door for a place week by week and a great team in future.

For those who did come to trials on either Friday or Sunday (or both), please could you drop me an email as soon as you possibly can with some brief thoughts on the following points:
How you felt you performed at trials
What position you would like to play (handler, 1st cut/middle, deep)
Your strengths as an ultimate player

Your weaknesses Your likely availability/commitment for tournaments - please let me know if you are keen to play university tournaments this term, Open Tour in the summer (dates at the foot of this mail), or both.
You might want to think about things like throwing, catching, reading the disc, running/cutting, marking (i.e. putting the force on the thrower), guarding (i.e. playing D on cutters), fitness and pitch awareness in your comments on these points.

(email address in email sent to CAMDISC on the 21st, or contact webmaster-ultimatesrcf.ucam.org)

This is to ensure the process of squad selection is as fair as possible; to get everyone thinking about where they play best/what they enjoy most so that we can help develop the structure of the team; and to improve our awareness both individually and as a team of what we are good at and what we need to work most on.

We'll then be really well placed as a club to focus our time and effort in the right way to improving everyone's game and the way we play together. This will also benefit those outside the squad, as Sunday sessions will be run in parallel (i.e. running the same drills and working on the same skills) and additional 'skills clinics' will be open to all those who feel there would be benefit in attending. As James has said, we're really keen to develop players at all levels, and Sunday practices in particular will give everyone the opportunity to improve and stake a claim for a place in the squad every week.

The squad will be announced this week, together with details for the practice sessions for this coming weekend.

As usual, any questions or concerns please get in touch.

Thanks,

Dave
