STRANGE BLUE NEWS

Strange Blue Open Squad Trials - This Coming Weekend
Posted: 15.JAN.2007

Strange Blue will be holding open (i.e open to men and women; there's also a separate women's team) squad trials for the coming summer season:

At Leys School astroturf (http://tinyurl.com/yc3fc9) on Friday 19 January at 1800-2000

And

At Parker's Piece(http://tinyurl.com/y68awr) on Sunday 21 January at 1100-1400

We are aiming to establish ourselves as regulars in the Open A Tour this year with a squad of approximately 25 players. If you're not aware of what Tour is, see the foot of this email. Everyone is welcome to come to one or both sessions (one is sufficient, although both would be good) - just turn up.

If you are keen to try out but cannot make either of these sessions, please drop me an email
(email address in email sent to CAMDISC on the 15th, or contact webmaster-ultimatesrcf.ucam.org)

The squad will train together twice a week, on Friday night and Sunday morning. An email regarding club practice times and structure in general will follow soon from the exec. We will expect commitment from the squad - both in terms of attending practices and coming to at least 3 of the 4 main tour events.

Please note that the squad will not remain entirely fixed - there is scope for people to be called up at a later date.

If you have any questions or concerns, please drop me an email.

Thanks

Chavy Dave

Tour

'Tour' is a series of weekend tournaments run by the UK Ultimate Association, with points awarded for finishing position at each and an overall winner based on the aggregate of points gained over the 3 events. It is split into Open, Mixed and Women's divisions. This squad selection is for Open Tour, which will have the following dates this year (these tournaments run concurrently with the Women's Tour - if you're interested in playing women's please let Sarah know at snl23@cam.ac.uk):

(Tour 0 - seeding tournament - 31March/1 April)
Tour 1 - 23/24 June
Tour 2 14/15 July
Tour 3 18/19 August
Nationals - 1/2 September

'Nationals' is a cup-format tournament which runs after the conclusion of Tour - SB will also be entering that. FYI Mixed Tour will run from April to June and SB will enter - but there will be no specific squad for this.

Tour represents the highest-quality ultimate played in the UK; the champions last year, Clapham, also came 5th at the World Club Championships in Perth, Australia last year. It's a great opportunity to play ultimate at a high level when the weather is best for it over the summer. Those of you who are students and will not be in Cambridge over the summer - this does not matter as you will train as much as possible when in Cambridge and then turn up to the tournaments over the summer.

'A' Tour is the top 16 teams of the Open division - and Strange Blue have consistently hovered around the bottom of that 16 and the top of the 'B' Tour. This year, we aim to become regulars in A Tour and press for a top 12 placing. This is very much within reach - be a part of it!
