TuxMessenger
TuxMessenger is a GTK+ based client for MSN Messenger

TuxMessenger is a client for MSN Messenger (.NET Messenger Service), primarily aimed at the GNU/Linux platform. It is an ongoing project, started for my own personal use, but is available for download here in case anyone else might find it useful. It is in an unfinished state (although development continues in bursts), and lacks several important features such as block-list support and file transfer (these should be added sometime soon), but some other features place it ahead of other clients:
- Uses the latest version of the MSN protocol (MSNP12).
- Support for MSN7-style 'custom status messages' - in both directions.
- Support for avatars ("display pictures") - both sending and receiving.
- Support for sending and receiving 'nudges'.
- Decent internationalisation thanks to GTK2 and Pango.
- Drag and drop multi-way conversations.
- Support for message fonts and colours.
The following features will hopefully be added in the near future:
- Block and allow list support.
- "List Cleanup" - check your contact list for inconsistencies such as contacts on your list who do not have you on theirs.
- File transfer - including MSN6-style firewall-aware transfers.
- Support for contact list groups.
- Ink support - handwritten messages, although this is complicated by a lack of available information on the ISF format used to transfer Ink data.
TuxMessenger was designed from the outset to be fast and "business-like". You won't find the word "buddy" anywhere here! Also, since TuxMessenger was partially created from a dissatisfaction with many "multi-network" IM clients, you won't find support for other IM systems in TuxMessenger any time soon.
TuxMessenger is licenced under the GNU GPL and you are welcome to try it out. If you like it, or need help using it, or find any bugs, let me know - I'll be pleased to hear from you.
