GnuPG / PGP
Encrypted/signed email is welcome. You can download my GPG key here.
This key is also available from
the *.pgp.net keyservers. It was created on the 11th July 2003.
The most up-to-date encryption subkey (but not the master signing key) will expire in July 2007.
The ID of my current key is D8834197.
Its fingerprint is 9749 7C8A 037D F867 9F38 F7C0 2314 8F97 D883 4197.
Word Documents etc
Please do not send documents in Microsoft Word format. Since Microsoft makes a determined effort to prevent third-party software from reading these files, they are not appropriate for information interchange on the Internet. Use PDF or HTML if you require to send formatting information - which you probably don't.
Similarly, don't send any large files by email. Put them on the web somewhere and email a link instead.
I'm not particularly fussy about HTML email - I just think it's pointless in almost all cases.
Cryptographic Signature Compatibility Issues
Microsoft Outlook Express is known to choke badly on messages signed with PGP/MIME cryptographic signatures. When recieving such a message, Outlook Express fails to display any of the content of the message - far worse than simply labelling the signature as an "unsafe attachment". This behaviour is a bug in Outlook Express. Please do not complain to me if you experience these problems - instead, read more in this mailing list thread and strongly consider migrating away from such broken software. Outlook Express has several such compatibility issues which may cause problems for your email recipients and yourself.
