Eleven down, twelve to go
17.08.09
What a fortnight! BABY has been playing to a packed George 2 most nights, thanks mostly to the cast's incredible hard work plugging the show on the Royal Mile. It's really satisfying to see people who have been flyered or seen small previews of the songs on one of the stages on the mile come and see the show the same day. And then leave smiling.
We've had great reaction from all the audiences (and critics), with loads of people coming and finding us after the show or the next day on the mile to tell us how much they enjoyed watching BABY. One highlight for me was a lady coming to the lighting desk at the end of a performance asking if we had anything in print which she could take home. As we haven't printed programmes the best I could offer her was a crumpled flyer that was to hand. She seemed grateful though, saying it would help her remember a 'wonderful evening'. It's moments like those which make all the long nights worth it!
Today was the company's first (and well deserved) day off since arriving in Edinburgh. Still amazing to think we're not even halfway through the Fringe run though...

Arrival at the Fringe
05.08.09
Cast and crew arrived in Edinburgh Monday afternoon. Yesterday saw our get-in and tech rehearsal. Big thanks to those Cambridge techies from other fringe shows who came at 9am to help build the set.
Edinburgh feels peculiar at the moment. Venues and their bars are still being put together, and the mile is quite quiet. All the calm before the storm when the mania begins on Thursday. We will be hitting the flyering hard from today - and get to do some small 15 min exceperts from the show on the Mile stages on the weekend, as well as singing at the George Square press launch, and in the George 1 cabaret bar on Friday and Sunday evenings at 10pm.
George II is fantastic, really intimate, and the sound balance issues we anticpated before we arrived turned out to be far less of an issue than we feared.
Has been great to finally meet all the staff there that we have been in contact with for months via phone and email. They seem to be a great network of support for the show, and it feels like it will be a really good month.
We were even featured in George Square's Chris Grady's What's on Stage Blog which was very complimentary about the show and our company. Never a bad thing!

Onwards to Edinburgh
02.08.09
Last night saw our fantastic preview show at the Judith E Wilson Drama Studio, at the university’s Faculty of English. A big thank you to the Faculty for the use of the room all week. The show was received incredibly well to a near-capacity crowd, and gave us all a chance to finally get BABY out in public for just one night before we head to Edinburgh.
Today was spent cramming set onto the van we are sharing with other university shows, and then tidying up from a week in the drama studio. Incredible how much can be crammed into one van, and equally amazing the amount of rubbish a cast of six can accumulate in six days!
Trains tomorrow to Edinburgh to join in the fringe excitement.

"The Story Goes On..."
28.07.09
Busy couple of days. Our fantastic set has arrived in Cambridge, and been moved into the studio where we’re rehearsing from now until our departure for Edinburgh. It’s also where we’re doing our preview performance so a good chance for everyone to get used to the space.
Spent yesterday running around Cambridge shops picking up baby clothes, toys and 1980s artefacts. This evening ended with a bbq at our neigbours’ house, the cast of another Cambridge Fringe show, The Wind in the Willows.

Edinburgh Preperations Continue
22.07.09
Yesterday saw a busy day of preparations for the show. The final rehearsal slog began in earnest in Cambridge, with the cast moving back there follwing a short break after term. Highlights included a choreographed aerobics routine. Hmm...
We are immensely grateful to the ADC Theatre in Cambridge for the use of their rehearsal studio, conveniently located just a minute's walk from the cast houses!
