The 800 Year Quiz

FAQ

  1. Q: Will all the questions be about Cambridge?
A: No. The questions will be on a diverse array of topics that would give no clear advantage to any one department. However, as the quiz is timed to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the University of Cambridge there will be some bias towards questions with a Cambridge angle, though not specifically about the University.
  2. Q: Is my Department eligible to compete?
A: Check out the eligible departments list.
  3. Q: Why is my department not there/been conglomerated with another?
A: Due to the huge number of subjects taught at the University it was necessary to merge some under general headings, for example all the different medical disciplines are conglomerated into simply "Medicine". If you feel your department has been unfairly left out then please contact us to discuss its inclusion.
  4. Q: When is the competition?
    • Round 1: Monday 2nd March 2009
    • Quarter Finals: Monday 9th March 2009
    • Semi Finals and Final: Monday 4th May 2009, in the debating camber of the Cambridge Union
  5. Q: When is the application deadline?
    A: February 16th 2009
  6. Q: Can Colleges enter?
A: No. However, every year the Quiz Society organises a similar competition for colleges- the Inter-Collegiate Quiz Competition. Sign up to this mailing list to receive details. Please do not sign up to this list if you want information about the 800 Year Quiz, for that please go to application page
  7. Q: How hard are the questions?
A: As hard as you would see on University Challenge.
  8. Q: Can I help/write questions for it?
A: Thank you, but all questions have been written already. However, the Quiz Society runs a weekly pub quiz at the Cricketers, for which we are always keen to get new question setters. Email soc-quiz@lists.cam.ac.uk if you are interested.
