Me, in the Atlas mountains My name is Olaf Davis, and this is my website. I'm a Master's student at the Institute of Astronomy and King's College in the University of Cambridge. In October 2008 I'll be starting a DPhil at Oxford University.

Academia:

My interests include:

Stellar and galactic dynamics
Formation of large-scale structure in the Universe
N-Body and Monte-Carlo simulations of astrophysical phenomena
Black Holes
History of astronomy
Public communication of astronomy

My BA was in mathematics, and I'm also interested in topology, predicate logic, and the foundations of mathematics.

Computing:

Along with a friend I've produced a game, called Biology or Physics?, which you can play here.

My three favourite langauges are:

Python
Prolog, which I strongly recommend trying for anyone unaquainted with logic programming. A good tutorial can be found here.
Inform, a language designed for writing 'Interactive Fiction' or text-adventure games. I have so far written two short games in it.

I believe Open Source is a Good Thing.

I edit Wikipedia under a fairly obvious username.

Other interests:

I've played and run several table-top roleplaying games, mainly using White Wolf's Storytelling system. Two of them are (partially) preserved here and here, though they may not make much sense to the uninitiated.

I'm a member of ICE, an improvised comedy group at Cambridge University, and have been since 2004.

Occasionally I draw comics, some of which I've collected here. They're not very well scanned, I'm afraid.
