Nicky joined the IfM in 2001 as a doctoral researcher, with a background in the Natural Sciences. Her research is with the Technology Enterprise Group in the Centre for Technology Management. Her research focuses on the growth and development of early-stage environmental technology companies, with a particular emphasis on sustainable energy technologies. Her other achievements include:

• Advice for a variety of early-stage environmental technology companies on business development and strategy, both formally and informally
• Setting up the 3P Business Creation Competition with CU Entrepreneurs to stimulate the development of social and environmental enterprise
• Managing a variety of consultancy projects, ranging from enterprise education, to building support for environmental technology ventures, to the provision of funding and support for European ICT high growth companies. Clients include the DTI, Regional Development Agencies, the European Commission.
• Work for the Cambridge Entrepreneurship Centre at a formative time. This was the predecessor to Cambridge Enterprise and the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning with which she still remains
