Hello and welcome to Medsin Cambridge!

My name is Aamena and I am MedSin Cambridge president 2012/13. MedSin is a student-body network that is involved in acting against global and local health inequality. This year we have two broad themes that we are acting to tackle: neglected diseases and stigma in health.

MedSIN has 4 areas of work to act against health inequality:

1. Education. We are dedicated to bringing stimulating and thought-provoking speakers to Cambridge. This term we have a series of three speakers who are leading in their field of neglected diseases. Check out our term card for more information!

2. Volunteering. Our Projects Team have expertise to advise you on how to choose, organise and fund your international summer volunteering placement. We have arranged a Project Fair where organisations who offer summer volunteering placements are coming to Cambridge, giving you the opportunity to talk to them in person. We also have peer-reviewed project database about other students’ volunteering schemes that members can access. In addition we have contacts and support local charities in Cambridge, so please contact the Projects Team if you would like advice in local volunteering opportunities.

3. Fundraising. We actively fundraise for charities related to our two themes. This term the charity we are supporting is Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI). We have organised a range of fundraising activities from: penny trails, charity formals to wine tasting. Please get involved to support this great charity and to enjoy the events!

4. Campaigning for political change towards equality in global health on a local and international level.

If you are interested in any of our work please contact our committee (see committee page) and come to our events. And find us on facebook at www.facebook.com/medsincambridge.
