Hello and a very warm welcome to Medsin Cambridge!

Here in 2011/12 we find ourselves in both an exciting and challenging time in global health. The sad fact is that we live in a world which is still fraught with injustice, both within healthcare and beyond: something which Medsin is actively engaged in combating. As we prepare for a year of significant political change with major issues such as climate change and world poverty still looming so large, there has never been a better time to stand up and get involved with Medsin!

The past year has seen Medsin’s profile rise even more in Cambridge, through the Global Health Conference, stimulating talks, highly successful fundraising events and another well attended projects fair. However, the best is yet to come! We have just recruited an incredibly strong new committee (see the committee page), who are all dedicated to providing you with every possible opportunity to get involved and make a real difference to global health in 2011/2012.

MedSIN has 4 areas of work, all of which we are seeking to expand exponentially this year:

1. Campaigning for political change towards equality in global health on a local and international level. Check out the Campaigns page for lots more details, and for more information on the Medsin Manifesto.

2. Education. We are dedicated to bringing the best and most stimulating speakers in their field to Cambridge in the coming year. We are also planning a series of training events aimed at equipping you with the necessary skills to make a tangible difference in international health. Keep an eye on the events diary!

3. Projects. We have a brand new Projects Team of people with all the expertise necessary to advise you on how to choose, organise and fund your international summer volunteering placement, making full use of our database of peer-reviewed volunteer schemes. See the projects page for more on this. We will also be supporting local projects in Cambridge, so keep an eye on our Projects page for these local volunteering opportunities!.

4. Fundraising. We will be putting on a huge range of fundraising events, from regular penny trails to bigger social fundraisers for specific global or overseas health charities. Please get in touch if you’d like to help out.

We very much hope that this whetted your appetite for what we have in store for the year to come! If you have any queries or suggestions regarding the direction you’d like to see Medsin take this year, then we’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to join our mailing list, then click here. If you’d like to become a life member, then click here. If you’d like to get more involved still then click here to request more details about joining our Action Team.
