rodent grammar

Mark Liberman has written an excellent discussion of the grammatical analysis of rodent behaviour over at Language Log.

Harrup’s Rat-English Dictionary, mentioned in Mark’s post, is also well worth looking at. Entries include:

  • eee eee ee [iii:'iii:ii] v.tr. to explore; eee eee ee e ee eek, Let me out so I can explore behind the filing cabinet!
  • eeeeeee ee [iiiiiii:'ii] v. to move; e eeeeeeee ee eerp mph, move over, you meatball, I can’t breathe under your furry butt.
