The third main release of Linux-SRT is codenamed Mongoose.
Current version
Version 3.1 source:
mongoose_31.tar.gz
(150 KB, required)
Precompiled X server:
svga_bin_lsrt_31.tar.gz
(2 MB, optional)
You need to download the main source distribution in all cases,
even if you plan to use the precompiled X server. If you don't use the SVGA
server, or would like to compile everything yourself anyway, you
only need to get the source code.
Don't forget to grab suitable versions of the
kernel,
XFree86 and
Afterstep if you need 'em.
Older versions
Version 3.04:
mongoose_304.tar.gz
Version 2: kangaroo.tar.gz
Version 1: alligator.tar.gz
Required:
- Linux kernel version 2.2.15
- Qt version 1.4x or later
- Intel processor
- Uniprocessor only (kernel modifications are not SMP safe)
Recommended (enables extra features):
- XFree86 3.3.6 compiled from source
- Afterstep 1.8.0 compiled from source
Notes:
- You can use any Linux distribution and any version of libc.
Ideally we would suggest glibc 2.1 or later to ensure that
multithreaded programs are supported correctly.
- Most of the code is architecture independent, so porting from
i386 to another processor family should be easy.
- The Qt library comes with most Linux distributions, and
with KDE. You can type ldconfig -v | grep qt to check if
you have it.
- Exercise for the reader: if you don't use Afterstep, you
might consider porting the direct manipulation feature to your
favourite window manager, and submitting the code to Linux-SRT.
It shouldn't be too difficult, and we'd love to support more
interfaces!
