Linux HOWTO's and general fun stuff
Well, this is the first section of this page. It focuses
on the GNU/Linux operating system[-sz]. Those who know what i talk
about can jump down to the articles.
Those who do not, a short introduction. In 1985 a group of hackers were imprisoned for a crime they did not commit were fed up with the situation that all the existing OSes were owned by big companies and sucked (althought less than Windows now) so they decided to write one of their own , that would be completely free and open to edit and use by everyone.
In epic coffee and oreos fuelled hackathons, they put together a bunch of utilities, but the system lacked a kernel,
much like frankenstein lacked a brain. Now, in 1991 a grad student in Univ. of Helsinki , Linus Torvalds ,wrote a free kernel just for a test
and unsuspectingly released it into the world, dubbing it Linux, as a joke it was meant to be. He shifted the wheel of history as hackers leapt
onto this kernel, like scarabei on a piece of dung, and began shaping it into the kernel that they so much needed. GNU/Linux was born.
Currently it takes a share of about 1% of computers worldwide, is used by Russian, Korean, German, Brazilian and Indian governments. And what is best, you can use it as well Find out about major linux distributions here, and install away
