CUMexSoc History

1999

April 28th
The film Like water for chocolate shown in Churchill makes it possible to start the first ideas about the society between Carlos Castaño, Carlos Ludlow, Arnulfo Valdivia and Sergio Mendoza.

June
The Mexican students in Cambridge had a fantastic mole session with Mexican beer and Mexican music. The ideas for the integration of a society consolidated.

August
The society is registered formally with the University of Cambridge.

November 13th
The first sucssesful big Mexican Party took place at The Diamnod in Selwyn College. Lots of people and fun!

2000

February 24th
Due to the success of the party, the Mexican Society was asked to be DJ in the Latin night organised by Emma MCR. Again music, beer and fun. A second success.

June
The Annual General Meeting was held in Clare Hall and the new committee for the academic year 2000-2001 was elected.

October
After some time we organised for the second time a big Michalemas Mexican Party. This time at the new MCR room in Clare Hall. If you were not there……..you were not in Cambridge (Where were you?) Too much for what can be explained with words.

November 11th
Another MCR heard of the success and called the Mexican Society to be DJing in a Latin Night. Tequila and beer were provided to the MCR by the society.

2001

February 25th
Emma MCR aksed again the society to be there, thanks to the great time that everybody had the previous year.

March 14th
First projection of a number of Mexican movies that the society will show for the enjoyment of all the Cinema fans in Cambridge.

November 17th
Another sucessful Mexican Party took place at Clare Hall College. One of the best parties of the year according to the guests!

2002

March 2nd
First formall hall dinner organized by the Mexican Society with collaboration of Robinson College MCR. Typical Mexican food was served and Mexican music was played till late!

2008

January-February
The webpage of the CUMexSoc is completely renewed thanks to Linda Uruchurtu, Luis Vargas and Fabián Rosales. Our friends of mannamexico become our sponsors.
