Defensive Game for Mixed Pays Off

27/1/08

Cambridge 6 - 5 Northampton

We were up against the top of the league, Northampton, who were yet to lose - so tension was high. We were at home, however, and were unwilling to give up our unbeaten record at Barton Road. Again, Cambridge failed to start with all pistons firing; a quick break leading to an early Northampton goal.

Seeking to set right this mistake, Mark retaliated with a superb equalizer. The defence were left short a few times but with some first-class communication led by Ellie we stood firm against the onslaught.

Cambridge Restart The Season in Style

20/1/08

UEA 2 – 22 Cambridge

We resumed the lacrosse season early with our rematch versus UEA, which had been postponed from late November. We were keen to show that we hadn't indulged too much over Christmas, and that we were already honing ourselves in preparation for the dark blues later this term. We arrived at the pitch early and almost had too long in which to warm up our stick skills and psych up our minds.

This was shown by conceding a sloppy goal straight from the draw. This kick-started the Cambridge team into action. The Defence tightened, the passes were slick. Spaces opened up everywhere in midfield and attack, and the goals started to rain in. We finished the first half 12-1 up, with Lina barely having any shots to worry about in goal.

Cambridge remains Fortress for Mixed

11/11/07

Cambridge 12 - Hertfordshire 3

We stepped up to our second home game of the season after a fortnight break since our last league match wanting victory, and a good one. Nothing else would do. We had yet to shine and build on the potential that we had shown in our first match. We felt that the time was Now.

Having failed to start the previous few games firing, Jack got the team together and really got everyone to focus during the warm up. We meant business. Despite a few last minute squad changes due to injury we were confident that we still had the depth, skill and stamina to get the result we deserved.

Mixed positive performance vs Northampton

28/10/07

Northampton 18 - Cambridge 9

Our 3rd match in 3 weeks saw us travelling away to Northants. Usually quite a gritty encounter, this fixture is one that has historically been one to leave us having wanted more (although usually wishing that we’d seen less!).

Having performed so under par the week before, we were determined to play the way that we knew we could. We hoped that the recent league changes to only allow the use of women’s sticks would play to our advantage (have only ever used them, compared to the Northants mens players).

Mixed suffer at hands of the Dark Blues

20/10/07

Oxford 12 - Cambridge 3

This match started off as a bit of a farce, and we made the school-boy error of letting it get under our skin and affecting our game. When the whistle blew we still had all the rushing across Oxford and hurried 5 min warm up going through our minds, and we started the match running about like headless chickens – clearly phased by the situation when we so blatantly wanted to prove ourselves against the old foe.
