Cambridge 6 - 5 Northampton

We were up against the top of the league, Northampton, who were yet to lose - so tension was high. We were at home, however, and were unwilling to give up our unbeaten record at Barton Road. Again, Cambridge failed to start with all pistons firing; a quick break leading to an early Northampton goal.

Seeking to set right this mistake, Mark retaliated with a superb equalizer. The defence were left short a few times but with some first-class communication led by Ellie we stood firm against the onslaught.

The recent investment in shooting practice resulted in some commendable goals from Captain Jack, Si, Gopal and Grace - who showed 'Girl Power' scoring twice. The second quarter showed exemplary play by James Wallis and some formidable attack by Allie.

Going into half time 3-2 down, the team was fuelled by Holly's Haribo and Jelly Babies. These, combined with an inspirational talk by Jack, led us into a superb third quarter. Gopal showed off his smooth moves, catching the goalie off guard and scoring a quick goal that earned him Man of the Match. He was backed up by a strong defense, with Kate and Sarah forming an impenetrable wall. Going into the final quarter the score was 6-4 to Cambridge.

Northampton attacked strongly, throwing everything they had at the Cambridge line. It was nail biting for the Cambridge side. The defence however stayed strong - their pressure caused many dangerous shots to be snatched at and there were many sighs of relief as they went inches wide. Lina did some fantastic saves earning her Woman of the Match. Cambridge emerged victorious, the final score being 6-5.

This match was incredibly important for us. The Northant's men in particular are very athletic, and it was good that despite perhaps lacking half a yard of pace, our lacrosse skills, and teamwork emerged victorious. Our confidence, buoyed by showing how we can scrap every minute of the match, takes us ever closer to Varsity and the prizes that should be won there.
