Fèis is the Gaelic word for a festival or feast. However over the past few years the word has become synonymous with the Fèis movement; a group of Gaelic arts tuition festivals which now take place throughout Scotland.

A Fèis is an opportunity for individuals to come together to develop skills in the Gaelic arts - song, dance, drama, and traditional music on a wide range of instruments. Tuition is designed to be accessible and fun, but professional and effective.

At national level, the Fèisean are one of the most successful arts initiatives in Scotland. More than 3,500 young people currently participate in the 40 Fèisean which take place annually throughout Scotland, four of which offer tuition entirely through the medium of Gaelic.

The idea of Fèis London is to bring the spirit of the Fèisean to Scotland’s third largest city! And to create an opportunity for a people who have never experienced the beauty, vitality, excitement and relevance of one of the United Kingdom’s most thriving artistic traditions.

The Fèis is an entirely participative experience. But don’t think it’s all about the lofty pursuit of perfection in some alternative universe. It’s about learning through taking part. So don’t worry if you're no expert on the fiddle or the accordian or don't speak a word of Gaelic, there will plenty of opportunity for you to get involved……

The first London Fèis took place in Roehampton, South West London in September 2007.

The second London Fèis will be taking place over the weekend of 5th to 7th September 2008 the same venue. You will find more details about what is actually going on by exploring the other pages of this site.
