Given the enormous amount of arts-related activity around campus and in the city (and also our name!), it is a shame to say that we received relatively few reviews. For that reason, we are making a special effort to encourage people to send us their reviews of recent cultural events. On the other hand, the reviews we did receive were of a very high quality indeed - select from the four titles on the left, and submit your own work to leedsreview@hotmail.com.
If you're unsure about what we're looking for, then here are some suggestions:
Concerts: for example, a review of the series of free lunchtime concerts that are being put on at the moment on Wednesdays at the Venue
Exhibitions: both the Henry Moore institute and the Leeds City Art gallery regularly change their exhibitions, and the latter has a wonderful collection and a number of permanent exhibitions
Films: review of any films will be considered, or a group of films from a certain genre or a particular director
Books: which are perhaps the most obvious source for reviews - again, we are open minded regarding genre
From this list (which is obviously not exhaustive!) the potential for choosing your own subject/topic is clear, and you need not limit yourself to events in Leeds: our first review is of an exhibition that took place in London. In short, though preference is given to recent/current events, we will consider reviews of anything to do with the arts.
Forthcoming reviews will cover the recent reading of Allen Ginsberg's poem Howl in the School of Music, and the showing of Andy Warhol's epic one-shot film Empire at the National Theatre, London.
