Essays

Perhaps the main tenet of the Leeds Review is intellectual diversity. 'Interdisciplinary' is an awkard adjective, but it best sums up the content of this site: in this section alone you will find discussions of West Papuan politics, the nature and role of the poet, a sixteenth-century elegy, and astrology in early-modern Europe.

Many people have asked what subjects are expected by the Review's editors, and the simple answer is 'any and all'. Originally the project was supposed to provide a link between those interested in literature and those interested in philosophy - the artificial and recent boundaries between the two subjects were to be rejected. But even that quickly appeared to narrow an aim, as we received submissions and enquiries from members of a wide variety of departments, and with completely differing interests.

This diversity should be an encouragement both to readers and potential writers: there will hopefully be something here to interest you, and there is very likely some work that you have done or a subject of interest to you that is appropriate for this section.
