Returning finalist, BA hons Politics Parliamentary Studies. I do have an interest in Russian culture (art, ballet, music), but I try to stay away from the politics! I have recently returned from spending a month in St. Petersburg. My current academic interests are in the politics of Central Asia.

My subject of study, politics, is also my main interest. German literature has fascinated me for a number of years, though I am yet to visit the country itself (something I hope to do this winter.

I am 21 and grew up in London. I am now in my final year at Leeds studying English Literature and Art History, and shall be basing my dissertation around the relationship between Art and Literature. I am a committee member for the English Society, as Website Manager, and Communications Officer for the A Cappella Singers Society. I am a keen poet, singer and painter and aim always to be creative within some portion of my life, whatever the success.

I'm now in my third and final year, studying for a BA in Classical Civilisation. When I'm not at university I live in Durham. I have been writing since I was little, but this is the first time I have considered having an academic essay published. I also enjoy dancing, and going to the gym. After my degree I hope to become a primary school teacher.
Lindsey Rawes
I am studying for a PhD in Classics. I am an avid reader and am interested in all periods of history (not just Greeks and Romans). I enjoy all forms of art and music, in addition to currently learning to play the piano and has appeared in productions by several local amateur operatic societies.

S

Samuel Harte
I'm 22, and a physics student here at Leeds. Music is my main interest - I play in a post-rock band and attend as many gigs on the local scene as I can. After uni I want to travel for a couple of years, before settling down back home in Bristol.
Sarah Blunt
I was brought up near Leeds, in Adel, and am currently working on my MPhil in History. Much of my interest in poetry is focussed aroun the Elizabethan period and the seventeenth century. I have recently published a paper on the metaphysical poet Fulke Greville, and hope to continue studying for as long as possible!
Sophie Payling
I'm 19 and from North London. Just starting my second year at Leeds, having salvaged my wilting English-Latin degree from certain death and traded it in for a fresh-faced, dynamic English language and literature course. My alarm clock chimes those hopeful adjectives each Monday morning. In terms of reading, my preference lies in Renaissance Literature but most of my research seems to be in 'life experience' at the moment. Combining the everyday and some mythical elements I seem to have acquired along the way and perhaps creating something interesting to read.

T

Tom Brand
I am a second year student at University of Leeds, studying joint honours in Management & Philosophy. Areas of personal interest include the mind, social interaction, evolution, the origins and nature of the Universe, ethics and the environment. I enjoy creative writing and drawing, neither of which I'm probably any good at.

V

Vincent Bartholomew
I have just begun my second year as a geography student. I'm already getting nervous about finishing at uni, but hopefully I'll be able to continue studying as a postgrad.
