Editorial for Issue #1

Birds, a Persian poem

Welcome to the first edition of the Leeds Review

The aim of this site is to present a journal illustrating the extraordinary range of intellectual pursuit in the University, and to provide a platform for students to publish their work. That we have reviews, essays, poetry, and artwork of such diversity and quality demonstrates the validity of the project, and leads me to think that future issues will maintain the high standard, as we unearth more willing writers and talented individuals.

The images to the right are from three of the pieces in this first issue - they go a little of the way to explaining what we're looking for: anything that is arts related; commonplace or obscure, printed or performed, related to your subject or a personal interest. The e-mail address for all submissions and enquiries is:

leedsreview@hotmail.com

If a further incentive is needed: we are going to push for funding this semester so that a printed copy of the Review - containing the best of the online content - can be published and made available on campus.

West Papua

There is no need to take any more time away from your reading of the work shown in the menu to the left. All that I should say is that the online edition will be run like a journal, with 2 - 3 issues per semester. We aim to publish 5 pieces in each section and to feature one artist each issue, though we will happily include more if submissions arrive in great numbers.

I hope that this first issue affords enjoyment and provokes thought. It has been a pleasure to compile the material and correspond with all of the contributors, to whom great thanks is due.
