Vinyasa Flow, Louise Palmer, Clare Colony – Friday 12 June, 5.30-7.00pm

We are pleased to announce the last workshop of the term!

Advanced yoga workshop with Cissy
Saturday 13 June, 11am-1pm
Octagon Room, St. Chad’s

The two hour workshop will consist of an introduction to pranayama breathwork and a series of more advanced asanas taught by Cissy, one of the country’s leading yoga instructors. She says:

“Pranayama is controlled breathwork. You will learn how to clear the abdominal space and to relax the face. As the mind becomes more perceptive, the breath becomes rhythmic and soft.

“In yoga we must learn to tone the body gradually and not exploit flexibility. The asana workshop will emphasise learning the postures systematically, developing an understanding of horizontality and verticality, creating space in the body (and so in the mind). All yoga is directed towards a spiritual goal: opening the heart.“

This will be a great end to a busy term, and an even better start to a hectic May Week, so do come along!

The cost is £6 in advance, or £8 on the day – but spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so it’s advisable to book your place in advance. Please send a cheque for £6 (payable to ‘Cambridge University Yoga Society’) via UMS to Sorcha McMahon, 3rd year undergraduate, Fitzwilliam College, with your name, college and CRSid on the back of the cheque. Please also email Sorcha at scm59 when you send your cheque. Equipment will be provided by CUYS.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Unfortunately, there will be no more Saturday Bikram classes this term. We apologise for the inconvenience - but Bikram should be back and HOT next term, so please check back in Michaelmas!

We can now confirm the details of our next workshop:

Next Saturday, 23rd May, 2.30 to 4.30pm at St. Edward's Church.

The workshop will be conducted by Sylvie, and will be an active yoga workshop exploring how we can use yoga and simple pranayama (breathwork) techniques to calm, restore and uplift, helping us cope with everyday challenges. We will look at combinations of postures to make simple sequences we can practise at home to improve not only our physical strength and flexibility but also our mood and mental clarity. The workshop will last around one hour and forty-five minutes and finish with a relaxation.

Cost: £6 in advance, by cheque payable to 'Cambridge University Yoga Society' sent to Jaime Miquel, first year undergraduate at King's College, or £8 on the day. Please write your name, college and CRSid on the back of the cheque, and send an email to jmp93 if you are attending (with the subject line 'CUYS workshop'). Equipment will be provided at the workshop.

St. Edward's is a small church near King's college: walk along King's Parade toward Trinity lane, and just a few yards past the main gate of King's on the left you will find St. Edwards Passage tucked away on the right - the church is at the end.

Another date for your diary:

An advanced yoga workshop with Cissy on Saturday 13th June, 11am to 1pm, in the Octagon Room at St. Chad's. More details will follow!

We hope you enjoyed the first workshop of the term. Still to come this term is a more advanced yoga workshop, details of which will be announced nearer the time, so watch this space for updates!

Our regular classes continue throughout the term, from Wednesday to Sunday, so do come along for an opportunity to unwind and practise some relaxation techniques at a busy time of the year. Just check out the 'Classes' section of the site for more details.

We look forward to seeing you!

Namaste,

We are pleased to announce the first workshop of the term!

A meditation workshop will take place on Thursday 7th May, from 18:00 to 19:00, in the Jane Harrison room at Newnham College. It is FREE, and a great way to unwind after a long day. This hour-long session will replace the Pilates class for this week. Pilates with Tatiana will resume as normal next week (14th May, 17:30 start).

Meditation is a part of yoga practice that can do for your mind what hatha yoga does for your body. Its purpose is spiritual upliftment, relaxation and inner strength. This workshop consists of a brief introduction followed by an explanation and then 20 minutes practice of Haung-Sau, a meditative technique that, like most of yoga techniques, is thousands of years old.

Please tell your friends and come along!

We hope everyone has had a lovely Easter break, and is ready for a new term of yoga! Classes started up again on Thursday 23rd April, and there are five classes a week. Workshops this term will include a purely meditational class to help with focus and a more advanced practice towards the end of term. Information will follow, so watch this space!

Please arrive early to ensure a place. Classes cost £4 each, or you can buy a termcard (available from committee members at the start of classes), which is £12 for four classes.

We look forward to seeing you.
