Applying to Downing for Medicine
There are various sources of information for students wishing
to apply to read Medical or Veterinary Sciences at Downing
College.
The college has various resources to use including this web
site and the JCR
web site. Both have lots of information on college
selection, the interview process and other aspects of life
at Cambridge.
There is also the university’s web site which contains
very useful information on the course itself, as well as information
on the increasingly important Biomedical
Admissions Test. There is a sample paper on the
website, but your school should have previous specimen papers
for your use as the test has been running for a number of
years now (please note that it was previously known as the
MVAT test.)
While college selection can be based on a number of criteria
which do not necessarily require a visit to Cambridge, the
most important factor in selection of a college to many students
is its looks and feel as one walks in and has a look around
the college. This is why a visit to Cambridge, on your own,
with your family or on a college/university run open day (the
most appropriate way to see Cambridge) are highly recommended
and very worthwhile.
Downing College has always had a reputation for being one
of the leading colleges in Cambridge for medicine. Downing
have a number of medical reps who would be very happy to answer
any questions you have concerning any aspect of the application
process or Cambridge, and if they cannot answer the question
fully themselves they will make sure you are put in contact
with somebody who can.
Downing College also has many “Access,” initiatives.
If one would like information on this please feel free to
get in contact with the college Access officer or our Academic
Affairs Officer ( ksl26@cam.ac.uk.)
CUSU (Cambridge University Student Union) also have an access
officer (access@cusu.cam.ac.uk.)
If you have any further questions which cannot be answered
by any of the people/resources above, please feel free to
get in contact with the Whitby Medical Society President,
Saleem Khoyratty (sk410@cam.ac.uk.)
Everybody in the Society wishes you the best of luck with
your application and your studies.
