Mixed Hockey CUVS vs Newmarket Vets 25th November 2007 Sports Field by RSPCA CUVS + few others vs Newmarket Vets + Nicky (that's right, she defected) Final Score: CUVS 5, Newmarket Vets 2 (or 3, I can't remember now) Match Report: As many of you may have realised from the emails that went around in the penultimate week of term, this match was organised very last minute as a result of the keen-ness of the Newmarket Vets. The team consisted of all the usuals plus a few newcomers, including Mr Owen Morris making a guest appearance in the sweeper position and some ringers from Clare to boost the numbers. This match was
interesting for several reasons, firstly after several years of playing
Newmarket Vets they still don't have a goalie kit so went without one,
secondly they were short of players and had one very short player (he was
only 11) but who was actually amazing, and finally our goal keeper Will
was either still wasted or on a new level of hungover-ness that had never
been recorded, he was definitely still secreting double vodka It was a fun game
with lots of slick play and some not so slick play. The moment of the
match was definitely when Owen went on a storming run up the pitch and
almost scored (honest) only to have to sprint back to defend our own D
where he laid his body on the line and knocked an off target ball sweetly
into the corner of the net. I was reffing and I'm not sure that We went to the pub, we went home (Will went to bed). Get ready for some more hockey and various other sporting vetty action next term! Aidan & Andy Mixed Hockey CUVS vs Downing Sunday 4th November 2007, 2pm Wilberforce Hockey Pitch Final Score: Downing 5, Vets 0 Match Report: On a bright Sunday afternoon the Vet Mixed Hockey team descended on Wilberforce Road to entertain the defending champions Downing College in the first round of Mixed Cuppers. The Vets got off to a stunning start and managed to last 15 minutes before the first of Downing's outrageously flukey goals was conceded. During the next five minutes Downing had no answer to the dazzling skills of the Vet midfield and the incredible work rate of the defence as the Vets pressured time and time again forcing the blues keeper into stunning save after stunning save. But alas lady luck was not smiling on the Vets as we went in at half time having conceded another two controversial goals. The game continued in the same vein after the break as the blues keeper was put to work by some stunning stick play from El Capataino Aidan Borrill and the Downing attack were continually thwarted by the back three consisting of Nicky Brooks, Dave? and Pete o'Malley. But again from nowhere Downing managed to conjure up two goals to stretch their flimsy lead to 5. It wasn't until the last five minutes that Downing finally turned the tide and the game petered out as the final whistle drew near. Thanks to all who played and bring on the Newmarket Vets, God Help them! By ******************************************************* |
