AVS Congress 2008 - Nottingham

1st - 3rd February 2008

To start the new year off with a bang, AVS are launching an even better AVS CONGRESS than ever before.  It will no longer simply consist of lectures alone but there will be various practicals throughout the Saturday.  Also with a £4,000 jazz band set to play at the dinner dance on the Saturday night, this is definitely not a congress to be missed ....

HOWEVER there are only 28 tickets for Cambridge and these will be given out on a first come first served basis to people who email me first saying they would like one.  I will then contact you and give you more details about cheques etc but they have to be in by Friday 11th January!!!

The total cost for the whole weekend is £40 but this doesn't include transport, however Nottingham really isn't that far away especially if you book trains now!!

So please read on to find out more and if you are keen, reply to me on the link below straightaway to guarantee your place!!!

Dear AVS Member,

In 2008 AVS Congress will make history by being held at a totally new venue, Nottingham Vet School. Here at Nottingham AVS we've been working like squirrels preparing for hibernation, to bring you AVS Congress 08; please read on to find out what we've got in store for you...

The theme for the congress is 'Working Animals Pushed to the Limits'. It will encompass high performance dairy cattle, racehorses, guide dogs, birds of prey used in falconry and search and rescue dogs.

We have organised a comprehensive programme of the lectures within this theme, which is traditional for AVS Congress, BUT ...

..for the first time, we are planning a series of workshops and displays within this theme to run parallel with the lectures.

These are;

*        Equine orthopaedics
*        Guide dog handling
*        Distal limb ultrasound

It is anticipated these will provide another dimension to the event.

Of course like any other AVS event, a pub crawl shall take place. On the Friday night before the weekend gets going there will be a pub crawl round University Park (the university's main campus). We will take in eight bars for eight vet schools and then head to a the newley furbished Students' union club.

Transport has been arranged to and from your accommodation.

On the Saturday night our big event is a black tie ball. We've put a massive amount of work into this and it's shaping up to be the mother of all parties. Just to give you an idea of the standard we're aiming for we've booked an eighteen piece jazz band that's cost £4,000!

On Sunday after the AGM we're going to have a friendly inter-school rugby match. We hope this will open up the weekend to a slightly different crowd to normal - and be great fun.

Ok, so what do you get for all your hard earned money?

*        Food
*        Refreshments on Saturday
*        Champagne reception at the black tie venue
*        Wine on the table at the black tie venue
*        T-shirt
*        Accommodation
*        Goodie bag
*        You can have a snoop round our shiny new vet school

All passes for

*        Lectures
*        Workshops
*        Entertainment

We anticipate demand to be high, so tickets are sold on a first come first served basis - e.g. the first people to email back will be allocated tickets. You must get payment to your reps by end of the first week of term (Friday 11th January) - if this is not done your ticket will be reallocated to the next person on the waiting list.

When replying to this email requesting a ticket, please include the following details

*        Name
*        Contact details
*        T-shirt size
*        Meat or veggie option for the Saturday night meal
*        Name of Nottingham student you wish to stay with (if applicable)

HIT REPLY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (to nsh26)
