If the original programme and poster are ever found, let alone online, I'll eat my mute.
"It all started at 3am in Michael Brown's basement one warm evening in June 2000. The meeting had lasted longer than any of the committee's patience. It was decided to form another orchestra called the Baby (well, called the West Cambridge Sinfonia, but we decided that it would always be referred to as the Baby just to be idiosyncratic, although we rejected an excellent name that the brass came up with that spelt out PINT - I forget what it stood for). Its purpose was to play earlier repertoire, to have a flautist:rest of orchestra ratio that was not utterly laughable, to give an opportunity for less experienced conductors/soloists to conduct/play solos, and to cause more work for a committee that didn't have enough to do already (ok, maybe not the last one).
