This page gives what the average guy in the street knows about the Gods and their temples in Grantabrugge. Links lead to pages containing the kind of information you'd know if a lay follower or priest of that deity. All information on these pages is an IC summary of general perceptions, no guarentee of absolute truth is made. If you are playing a follower of one of these deities please inform the refs at tt-refs@srcf.ucam.org, who will send you a Player Guide containing all sorts of insider information.

Five or so years ago Wessex was watched over by a varied multitude of Gods, but something happened and they began to die. By 1285 only 15 were left and the Pantheons had been formed - the Sword and the Mace, equal and opposite, in eternal emnity. In 1292 there are only 13 universally acknowledged gods;

The Mace Pantheon:

St John - St John is a god of bringing aid to the deserving, and of healing. His church is the largest in Wessex, located on the river (in the modern day location of Johns College). His followers use the insignia of a red cross on a white background. They will heal you, for a fee, or if you are dying. Long queues form outside the temple at the end of the day, as the priests going off duty will often heal for free.

Humact - Humact is the God of Honourable Death. His followers adhere to the triplicate pillars of the faith: honour, truth and smiting undead. The Church in Grantabrugge was powerful – the King of Wessex is a Humacti. Unfortunately it was destroyed by fire and many of its paladins slain by nightmares in early 1292; a shell remains. The temple is located next to the river (where Trinity College would be in modern day Cambridge). The insignia of the Humacti temple is a sword.

Justice - Justice is the god that arose from the merging of two older gods in summer 1289 - Astalon Zorbina and Ishmund. The church of Justice runs the law courts.

Children of the Light - The Children of the Light are a Teutonic paramilitary group who seek to protect the populace from magical or spiritual abuse - as such they are suspicious of most magic, and will hunt down necromancers and priests of other faiths they deem 'evil'. The Children formerly regulated the law on the streets of Grantabrugge, but have recently dropped in numbers and that job is now the preserve of the City Militia. The Children can be identified by their insignia, a yellow sun or sunburst on a white background. In the spring of 1289 they were involved with the massacre of several hundred cultists.

Mallan - Mallan is the god of upholding strength, and of leadership. His followers will seek to suppress weakness where it holds communities back. His followers are few in Grantabrugge, but not necessarily uninfluential.

Morvana - Morvana is a Norse goddess of awareness and knowledge in battle. She represents perceptiveness and wisdom, and is associated with the interests of women. Certain of her followers swear chastity, and the Temple (located in the Norscan district) runs a shelter for women escaping arranged marriages. Morvanian scouts are legendary.

The Sword Pantheon: (The churches of the Sword Pantheon, barring Azrael, were declared illegal for a brief period in 1287.)

Vivamort - Vivamort is the god of undeath. He is associated with the occurance of zombies and other necromantic creatures. Worship of Vivamort was only recently legalised in Wessex. There have been several attacks on the city by necromancers in recent years, and followers of Vivamort have been hunted by the Children, Humacti and Azraelites amongst others.

Azrael - Azrael is a god of death, in fact his followers claim that he is the personification of death - and hence above other gods, for even gods can die. His main concern is that everyone should die at their appointed time – with assistance from his followers in stubborn cases. He has only a few priests in the city, but they are active in persuing and destroying undead. Bodies are often taken to the Azraelites for burial, to ensure they are laid to rest.

Sordan - Sordan is the god of pain and sadism. His worship was only recently legalised in Wessex. He is rumoured to have a certain subversive following amongst the nobility.

Luca - Luca is goddess of dreams and nightmares. Her followers are widely regarded as wierd and wacky if not potentially dangerous, although most are peaceable enough.

Crofter - Crofter teaches that what is done in this life will be reflected once the soul is sent to limbo. He is primarily a god of the peasants, teaching that hard work will be rewarded. Recently the church has schismed, with the more proactive branch seeking an improvement in the lives of the faithful in this world also.

Bast - Bast is the goddess of cats and self preservation. She teaches the value of the self.

Both Pantheons

Balance - Balance is the god of neutrality and eliminating extremes. In orderly societies they will work to support the disorderly elements, in lands that are ruled by evil they will crusade in the cause of good. They work to preserve order and balance within the pantheons, being a part of both pantheons but subject to neither pantheon head.
