SRCF Terms of Service

  1. The Student-Run Computing Facility (SRCF) is subject to the rules imposed on the CUDN by the IT Syndicate for the University of Cambridge. These can be found at: http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/committee/isss/rules/rules.html. Any user found in contravention of these rules will have their account suspended and may have their case referred to the University Computing Service.
  2. The SRCF System Administrators reserve the right to view any data stored on, or passing through, the machines under their control for the purposes of ensuring its correct operation, security, and compliance with these terms of service and relevant UK legislation.
  3. The SRCF System Administrators reserve the right to kill off CPU-guzzling processes in the interests of the other members and system sanity.
  4. Any user found to be using SRCF facilities to generate excessive chargeable bandwidth will be obliged to pay the outstanding costs.
  5. Society websites may not be run from members' personal webspace.
  6. Backups of the server will be made but the SRCF will not be held responsible for the loss of personal data.
  7. CGI scripts may be run on the server. The SRCF System Administrators reserve the right to remove this privilege with no notice in accordance with point 3.
  8. The server may not be used to send, or host websites advertised by, unsolicited bulk e-mail and/or USENET spam.
  9. Users are not permitted to compromise the security of another user's data in any way. This includes having an insecure password. Passwords will have their strength tested on a regular basis by the System Administrators.
  10. Membership of the SRCF is for life. However, it is not permitted by the University for members to retain their user accounts on machines on the CUDN if they are no longer in statu pupillari. Thus, your user account will expire around the time that your university email account does. You will be notified that your membership is about to expire. You will then have one month's period of grace to download all your data. Assistance can be given for this on request. At the end of this period, your access to the server will be revoked and any website will be taken offline. Your personal data will not be deleted without you being notified first. This is to ensure that the SRCF does not contravene CUDN rules (see above) by allowing people access after they are no longer authorised users of the CUDN.

Any problems, suggestions, or questions regarding the above terms should be directed to the system administrators by email – sysadmins@srcf.ucam.org
