Third Light

Third Light are a company run by former Cambridge students, including an SRCF member, who have kindly donated servers to us, enabling us to, among other things, launch the SRCF Desktop service, for which we are very grateful.

As a small thankyou to Third Light, we'd like to draw your attention to their internship scheme running this summer, for which we include an advert from them below:

Third Light Ltd is a small, friendly software company based in about 1 mile from the Science Park. We were formed in 2002 by Michael Wells and Ben Holland (both graduates of the University, having studied Engineering at Trinity Hall). We develop photo management software, and e-commerce products for print and download sales. We serve about 350 customers around the world, many of them being large corporations. Take a look at our web site if you'd like more background information: http://www.thirdlight.com/.

We have an opportunity on offer for a skilled Linux systems administrator this summer, to develop a solution for neatly packaged, end-user installable upgrades to our software. The aim of this project is to simplify the way that servers in remote locations are supported, by adding a feature to our web interface that lets the local sysadmin perform the upgrade. Key technologies involved are Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, C and Perforce SCM.

We also have a wealth of other projects going on which could be of interest to Engineering or Computer Science undergraduates. If you would like to be in Cambridge over the summer, working on a meaningful project that you can see to completion, please drop me an email and I'll arrange to have a chat with you.
