Trinity teams, now under captaincy of Tim, are again recruiting to fill the void left by the departures of James/Jon and Gus. Intrigued freshers can email nfm24 or tjl32.
Gus and Tim have also 'pimped' (colloq. enhanced the performance and/or appearance of) the table in the bar, which can now do 60epm (eggs per minute), although the filth potential is slightly reduced by the shorter springs and nicer wooden handles.
Finally, go to the Freshers' Fair and play on the table we've got in there.
TGM had a decent season, and the Gusses carrying Chen to 3rd in the league, despite not actually trying properly to win, must go down as unexpected. For TGM the season highlights were beating a full-strength Queens' team 5-0 away, beating King's who finished top, and of course Gus and Gus coming from 2-7 down to beat Ed 'Lej' Bolton. Player of the season: Gus.
Trinity A were distinctly inconsistent and mid-table, though were unlucky to lose lot of games 3-2. Highlight was beating Queens'. Player of the season: Arvi.
Trinity B had a very good season in division 2, losing the first game but then going unbeaten for nine until the playoff group, when the star player was ineligible as he had been promoted to the A team. Player of the season: S.T.L.
Overall Trinity player of the season: S.T.L. (for general improvement and performance in varsity match).
The singles culminated in a stunning exhibition of true skill and showmanship. Tim, who arguably should have been disqualified for various reasons, won the playoff against Gus to get to the semis, but then lost to Gus (who cunningly used the 'A material'). In the other semi, Gus agonisingly bottled it against Arvi. In the momentous final, Gus won the first leg by playing like Binit. Arvi won the second leg, in which all goals were skanks, but Gus came through to win the deciding leg with a series of hyper-Binit-skanktastic gashbangs. Shot Gus.
This week has seen precisely no shock results, with Arvi winning twice, Gus beating Gus and Gus easily, and Timeout Tim conceding a walkover to Gus because he left before the end of the game. Meanwhile, Tim in an attempt to shake off the various nicknames he has gathered recently, has managed to get himself in the varsity team, as has Gus. But Gus has ruled himself out of the team, so he won't be playing.
The groups have been officially drawn by Tim, so get on with playing the matches. Results and groups can be found here.
Tonight it was officially confirmed that Gus is the best player in the college. The question is, who is Gus?.

The AGM was held last night in the bar. The new committee (Lent 2006 - Lent 2007) is Chris Tynan (President), Tim Landy (Vice-President), and Neil Morrison (Treasurer).
The CUTFS league fixtures have been drawn. There are 4 Trinity teams this year (A, B, C, and TGM).
Tim Landy and Binit Shah won the Trinity Michaelmas doubles (results). Paul Simister and various partners won the freshers' doubles (results).
Trinity teams need new players for this year! Any freshers wanting to play for the college should email nfm24 ASAP.
There is also a competition on Tuesday 4th Oct, at 8pm, in the games room next to the JCR (upstairs from the bar). To sign-up for the mailing list for future events,
email nfm24.
Visit the table football stall at the Societies Fair at Kelsey Kerridge, Monday 1-7, Tuesday 10-4.
Do not lift the table by the bars unless they are pushed all the way in, or you will bend them.
Goals by all the players are worth the same amount, and you can score with any bar. "Bounce-out" goals count.
After each goal, the next ball should be given to the midfield of the team that just conceded the goal.
[Formally, you must pass the ball between two midfield players (i.e. two different men touch the ball) to kickoff. Most beginners do not have the skill to do this reliably, so they can ignore this rule. Also, according to certain sets of "official" rules, you can't score off the kickoff until the ball has been in possession of another rod (i.e. you have to pass it to your attack/defence, or give it away to the opposition, before anyone can score a legal goal).]
Deliberate spinning of the bars is not permitted. Spinning is when the bar rotates more than 360° without hitting the ball.
If the ball is stationary in a position where no player can reach it, you should lift the table so that the ball gets back in play. Possession goes to the team who took the last kickoff, in midfield (unless it was stuck in a defensive area, in which case it obviously goes to that defence).
[To put the ball back in play, you have to pass between two different men on the same rod.]
There follow some brief profiles of notable players.
Sohaib Al-Zadjali "Prince" (2001-2005, Oman)
The best player the college has had, and top varsity player 3 times. Captained Trinity to the league title, undefeated, in 2003. An attacker with brilliant pull-shots and tap-bangs, and also very good in defence.
Rob Backhouse "Brick Wall" (2001-2005, England)
Sound defender with good push/pull shots, regular Trinity A team player.
Jon Barrett (2001-2002, England)
Great defender with powerful shots, won the 2001 singles and uni doubles.
Sunny Chiu-Webster "Santaccio" (2001-, England)
Outstanding defender and very handy in attack. TGM regular. Good range of shots, including snake-shot. Inventor of the "acid rain" and the "sailor".
Giles Coope (2004-, England)
Skilled attacker, good at shooting the ball on-the-move.
Jon de Souza "Gus" (2002-2006, England)
Excellent defender with a devastating pull-shot, cheeky passing to attack, and reliable skank percentage. Regular A team player and captain, later TGM stalwart. The original Gus. Played varsity 2006.
Jon Grover (2001-2002, England)
Superb all-round player, played varsity 2002. Fast and consistent push-shots. Brother of Paddy Grover, one of the top UK players.

Solid defender, good tactician. Founded the club in 2001, and was part of the league winning team of 2002-3.
Richard John (2002-2005, England)
Good defender, captained the B team.
Jon King (2003-2006, England)
Tenacious defender. Only ever does one shot, which exploits the long-springs on the table and hence the lack of overlap between adjacent attackers for blocking.
Tim Landy "S.T. Landy" / "Timeout Tim" (2004-, England/USA)
Excellent defender, good attacker with brilliant snake-shot. Current Trinity and Cambridge captain and played varsity 2006.
Neil Morrison "Gus" (2001-, Scotland)
4-time varsity player (undefeated as captain in 2004), UK amateur doubles champion 2003. Founder of CUTFS and generally responsible for all Cambridge table football in the last five years. First Cambridge player to play in the World Championships, and has also played on TV. Can do any type of shot pretty well, though tends to use mainly cheeky dinks, improbable trickshots, and filthy hacks. Inventor of the trouser-snake, and first player in the uni to play the 'snake' shot. Part of the 2003 league winning Trinity team and captain of TGM.
James O'Connell (2003-2006, England)
Tricky attacker with a variety of unusual shots. Always paired with Jon King.
James O'Dwyer "The Rock" (2001-, England)
Reliable defender, dead-ball specialist. Key player on the Trinity Grad Mathmos team.
Andónis Papadhákis "Toni" (2001-2003, Cyprus)
Very good attacker with a fast pull-shot. Part of the league winning team of 2003. Generally known as a macho-man and an excellent basketball player.
Simon Rees "Reaps" (2001-, England)
Great defender with very hard and unpredictable shots. Played regularly for the A team and TGM.
Alex Ritter (2001-2004, Germany/Italy)
Heroic attacker, used the Italian "al volo" style (and claimed that everyone who didn't was cheating). Spiritual icon of TGM. Instigator of the famous "Ritter" shot. Played varsity 2002 and part of 2003 league winning team. Once beat Sohaib 13-2, in a game that lasted just over a minute.
Eugenio Triana "Yuge" (2001-2003, Spain)
Good defender with accurate shooting. Part of 2003 league winning team. Tendency to go for a siesta at crucial moments, and inventor of the "one leg save".
Chris Tynan (2004-, England)
Good attacker with a decent snake-shot, pull-shot, and midfield passing. Can also play in defence. Plays quite a slow calculated style.
Arvinder Singh Virk "Arvi" (2003-, England)
Excellent all-round player, though mainly an attacker. Can do several shots very well including the snake-shot, and can play very fast, especially in singles. Captained the A team in 2006.
Chen Yin "Gus" (2001-, China)
Phenomenal attacker with a variety of shots, regular A team and TGM player. Capable of beating anyone on a good day, and getting humped by anyone on a bad day. Inventor of the "newspaper save".
The Trinity College Table Football Club (TCTFC) is a college society that was formed in Michaelmas 2001. It has a constitution, a committee, a budget, and all the other stuff needed to actually be an official society. However, much more importantly, it exists to provide its members with the facilities to play the game of table football, both competitively and recreationally. The TCTFC was directly responsible for forming CUTFS, the university-wide table football society.
