What I Wish I...
–Colin Higgins
what i wish is
that i had half your looks
and you half my shoes
then we'd be snakes
you and i
and it wouldn't be so strange
if i unannounced
turned up to your old house
falsely quoting Dick Ward's
batman comics and your batman's secret codes
for entering hidden doors
and we'd both stand
in defence of castles
quite by accident
what we'd do is thrown broken
records against glasshouses
stand outside rainy
newspaper offices shouting
Bring Back The Old Grey Whistle Test
and the rich would have nothing on us
what we'd do is too vulgar
for you and i
we'd use too much ink
on stolen library books
writing notes to ourselves about Aristotle
we'd shoot melancholy down
with horrible tales
and dram shop's worth of lies
we'd believe everything we were told
and we'd know none of it
what we'd do is unspeakable
and like two smart stars we'd blaze
