Sophie Hannah was born in Manchester in 1971. She studied at the University of Manchester and has held Fellowships both at Trinity College, Cambridge and Wolfson College, Oxford. Her first book of poetry, 'The Hero and the Girl Next Door' was published at the age of twenty-four, and her poems are studied across the country at GCSE, A-level and degree level.
Also a bestselling crime fiction writer, Hannah has several novels to her name, including the psychological thrillers 'Little Face', 'Hurting Distance' and 'The Point of Rescue' which have sold 300,000 copies in the UK alone, and are also published across the globe.
In 2004, Hannah was named as one of the Poetry Book Society's Next Generation Poets, and her poetry has been compared to the works of Wendy Cope and Lewis Carroll. She currently lives in West Yorkshire with her husband and two children. We're very much looking forward to her visit to St Catharine's, and we hope you'll join us for what looks to be a great evening!
