Revelate is a group of students in Cambridge who are both religious and lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgendered (LBGT). It was started at the beginning of the 2003-4 academic year and by the end of that year included people of various religions and sexualities.
Revelate exists to meet the needs specific to LBGT, religious, Cambridge students. Currently these have been identified as needing a means of confidentially contacting other LBGT religious students and meeting up. The other major role which Revelate fulfils is as a formal body of people, requiring that other religious and LBGT groups acknowledge that LBGT, religious people do exist!
Revelate is coordinated by a closed and private e-mail group which ensures the confidentiality of its members. Using the e-mail group, members can get in contact with one another and details for social events can be arranged.
Any member of Revelate can arrange a social event and invite other members via the e-mail list. The social events can be as many and varied as members wish. Last year we met up 2-5 times a term and events included meals out, attending a J-soc (Jewish society) talk by the gay Orthodox Rabbi, Steven Greenberg, and a punting trip.
Revelate welcomes any Cambridge students who
define themselves as religious AND LBG or T or curious. You can be as active
as you like
on the list
and, as membership and messages on the e-mail list are strictly
confidential, you certainly don’t have to be out to all
your friends.
If you fulfil the criteria for membership and would like
to join, please send an e-mail to Lizz at: soc-revelate-managers@lists.cam.ac.uk
We’ll get back to you ASAP.
Last year’s managers were thinking about the possibility of setting up another e-mail list to inform those supporters of Revelate who don’t qualify for membership about social events which they could attend. If you would like to support Revelate in this way, please send an e-mail to the above address stating that you would like to be involved if such a list comes about. Thank you!
