Revelation Rock-Gospel Choir committee meeting minutes

Minutes of Cambridge Rev committee meeting 05.10.04

Present: Emma, Laura, Rosie, Rebekah, Emily, Ugo and Julie
Apologies: Liz

Agenda:

  1. Plan of attack for the Colleges
  2. First Rehearsal
  3. Beyond the first Meeting
  4. Any Other Business
  1. Plan of attack for the Colleges
Rebekah tells us firstly that a cheque has been cashed by CUSU even though they failed to give us a stall. Laura to email CUSU about it.

Ugo brought a large stack of leaflets. After discussing logistics it is decided that just freshers should receive the leaflets. We are to pigeon hole as many freshers with the leaflets. Thanks to Ugo for bringing them along!

It is decided though that we should pigeon hole everyone in our colleges. Julie had some sample little slips that we could use. Emma to make something small basic and similar that we can pigeon hole our WHOLE colleges.

Laura's posters don't come out with the right font so Laura to try and get the fonts to you. (But I can't so just change Revelation Rock Gospel Choir to some funky font! As I emailed you all about earlier in the week!)

Also along with posters we are to put sign up sheets, as many posters and sign up sheets EVERYWHERE please!

We question whether it is worth advertising in varsity. Rebekah tells us it costs twenty pounds. Perhaps we can keep this in reserve if the 1 st practice is low on numbers.
  2. First Rehearsal
Ugo and Liz are to sort out drinks.

Emily gives us a list of possible music. We are having difficulties with not knowing the repertoires of the older members. Emily to email confident conductors eg. Jamie and Jens.

Torahs mum is suggested as a possible music resource as she has a large Gospel Choir(?) and we may be able to get some new stuff from her.

We decide that we should have a minimum of three songs for a rehearsal. One that the choir may hear completed and so hear the good ‘sound' we can make! And ones that we can continue with; so two more complex and one simpler!

Emily tells us she is struggling to get secular music that is possible to turn into gospel songs! So we are all to keep thinking about it and keeping our eyes open, any suggestions to Emily! California Dreaming is one that is put forward. Julie also suggests that we look for secular music from WIM 2004.

Ugo offers to teach a couple of songs from his new book.

The music decided on for the first rehearsal is:
    1) Mourning into dancing (Jamie)
    2) Couldn't keep it to myself (Ugo)- This is the one we will finish!
    3) Honour you

We will have one song before the break and two after.

In the first practice we must:
    - Encourage Soloists
    - Encourage Arranging
    - Encourage people for warm ups!

Warm ups for the first week:
Rebekah to do the physical warm up!
Chine to possibly do a vocal warm up in a round
Possibly ‘up above my head' also and a breathing warm up.

We must keep to schedule and that is:

7.05- we arrive if we can for preparations
7.25- we welcome everyone and mingle!
    7.30- people start arriving
7.40- we do a warm up for 15 mins
    First song
8.30-  We break for 15 mins Emma to do juice break activity.
    Other songs
9.20- Pause for thought. This will probably be an introduction to what a pause for thought is!

Rosie is to bring the sticky labels!
Emma and Laura to bring the arrows!
  3. Beyond the first meeting
We need to be thinking of Christmas music already for the ADC concert, again suggestions to Emily! Particularly fun secular ones.

The other songs mentioned we may do this term are:
    Hosanna (Jens?)
DC talk ‘in the light' (yay!)
    Joyful Joyful
  4. A.O.B
Emma thanks everyone for their ongoing commitment and getting this advertising done!

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12–14
