Minutes of Cambridge Rev committee meeting 09.06.04

Present: Emma, Laura, Rosie, Rebekah, Emily, Ugo and Julie

Agenda:

  1. Rev garden party
  2. Selwyn CU garden party
  3. Fresher’s fair
  4. Rev CDs
  5. Feedback from this term
  6. Any Other Business
  1. Rev garden party
Takes place on the 15th June!!! As most of us are garden party virgins, Emma asks Ugo what normally takes place at these prestigious Cambridge events. He tells us there is normally and area for food, people tend to sit in small groups and there tends to be no strict agenda.

Julie asks are we to charge people. There is a general agreement that Rev is not profit orientated and so we won’t (although I’m sure people would pay millions to hear us sing!)

We decide to keep food simple in a buffet style. Julie offers her (potential) car to pick up the food and Emma will help pick it from Asda on tues afternoon. The question is asked who will make the food, and I’m not sure if we ever properly resolved that one?!

We decide to spend a budget of £50-£100 on food etc. A small basic list is drawn up: Drinks: juice type things and perhaps some bucks fizz Food: rolls and fillings etc Other: plates, cups, table cloths, forks, serviettes

Also we might need BLANKETS!! Emma to email choir about it.

Music wise, we agree to do a couple of sets Rebekah agrees to decorate with flowers (after much discussion as to how do you decorate a garden party?? Ugo usefully suggests clipping flowers to tablecloths!) Rosie will make posters to send out to advertise (what a star!) We will also advertise by word of mouth We must Tell our friends!
  2. Selwyn CU garden party
Takes place 14th June!!! It starts at 3 We basically need to show up and do what they want us to.

Jamie is confident in our ability and doesn’t think we need another rehearsal. Emma suggests small sheets with words on it for the African song as many people are unsure of the second verse is this possible?

Chine’s round may need a run through So we will meet half an hr before 2.30pm to start practicing on Emily’s suggestion 20mins before as people are always late!

We need to get the meeting schedule from Jamie
  3. Fresher’s fair
We have organised the stall! At least as far as we know! Rebekah very helpfully printed out the form, Laura filled it in and handed it in to the nice lady in the CUSU office.

Emma will organise a rota of people to be on the stall! (nice little summer job for you ems!)

Laura offers to help with decorations but others will have to help also! There is much excited discussion as to how to obtain big Burpee figures that are reportedly travelling the country. We decide photos would be good of the garden partys and so can whoever offered and anyone else please bring cameras!!

We also plan to entice people with haribo, leaflets which Ugo has offered to adapt and potentially music from a battery operated cd player.
  4. Rev CDs
There has been apparently some problems with the recordings of the last concert. Ugo is to ask Ant and Toby about this and future recordings.
  5. Feedback from this term
There is a discussion about the next term. Music wise we agree we should try that we are a gospel choir and so sing gospel music but that we should try to get a balance with some secular music eg. Mammas and Papas California Dreaming

We should start with simple but effective music so in one session people can see what it sounds like as a whole.

Venues for the start need to be fairly big so Selwyn is suggested. However for the normal practices we have no where as yet, Rebekah to enquire about Trinity Hall Chapel. Julie - Trinity Chapel? Emily - Queen’s Building? We don’t really want to have to pay.

Juice break- we need labels for the first few weeks - they are most helpful!

Pause for thoughts- Julie thinks that people are getting the idea that they don’t have to be anything big or special- just something fun!

We need balance in the rehearsals so we must be prepared to encourage people to shift sections or to shift ourselves!

It’s decided that the acapella stuff of this term has been good.

Socials have been great! Well done Rosie! Perhaps next term we will do them in fifth or 6th week
  6. A.O.B
It’s suggested that we might create a new position on the committee, that of a band coordinator in order to shift some pressure from Emily and so we can do big band stuff! Perhaps we also need a band list, people who might be prepared to play for us.

We vote as to whether we think Rev is good. There is a (slow) but unanimous YES!!

We decide not to record at practices as this is stressful and difficult and takes some of the fun away.

Also we need to send in a copy of Andy’s She will bring forth a son for a national CD

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12–14
