Who are we? We are Rev...
We are a Cambridge University Society, formed in 1998 as part of a National group of Rock-Gospel Choirs. We have no auditions — you don't need to be able to read music or even to sing — absolutely everyone is encouraged to come along and take part. Our repertoire is very varied.
Revelation is run by the choir for the choir so everyone is welcome to try conducting, arranging, soloing, organising, planning, playing in the band... the list goes on! The emphasis is very much on having fun, making friends, and enjoying the music together. We are open to people from every race and religion: all that we ask is that members respect Christian principles of equality and patience (this is summarised in Colossians 3:12-14 below). Concerts are good fun, but we try not to let them get people stressed and no-one is forced to do anything they don't want to do. All of this works to make a good atmosphere, and socials can only help!
We divide up into sopranos, altos, tenors and basses and parts are taught to the choir in simple ways, e.g. one member from each section will teach the others, going over it till they get the hang of it. It's dead easy! Each rehearsal ends with a short (up to five minutes) 'Pause for Thought' which is a chance for someone to share something with the rest of the choir: a favourite poem or piece of music, something they've done or seen or want to do... just about anything that's important to them. This makes for a close-knit choir and it's often the only serious bit of the rehearsal.

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12–14
