A TV Opportunity - 'For the Rest of Your Life'

QuizSoc has been contacted by Initial - the people who brought you Deal or No Deal. They are looking for couples that are happy to take risks in a brand new life-changing show for a major broadcaster.

Initial are currently making an exciting new programme called For the Rest of Your Life. This is a brand new ITV1 game show where you and your partner could get the chance to win a cash prize... and not just once... in fact you could be pocketing cash every month... of every year... for the rest of your lives. At the heart of For the Rest of Your Life lies an extraordinarily seductive proposition: how would you like to receive a cheque directly into your bank account... not once, not twice, but every month for the rest of your life?

This would be your goal and to get there we won't be testing your general knowledge or physical ability. What you need... in abundance... is an astonishing instinct, the insight to know when to gamble and when to stick and, above all, nerves of steel.

If you and your partner are interested, or know a couple who might be, please send an email to the organisers containing all your contact details. Or, call them on 0870 871 0781 for more information. Please do not contact QuizSoc about this!

Inter-Collegiate Challenge 2007

The Inter-Collegiate Challenge, (ICC) is back for another year. So far, eight different colleges have had the honour of winning the ICC trophy but no one has managed to win it twice. Could Churchill make it two years in a row? Or could your college beat them to the glory? Whether you're just looking for a bit of fun, or practicing for University Challenge, the ICC is for you!

The ICC is a University Challenge style tournament event. Questions are written by external experts especially for the event and are in starter-bonus format. Teams consist of four people who must all have been undertaking an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at their college on 1st January 2007. Each college may enter as many teams as they like; indeed it is common for several teams from one college to take part. The members of each team must be specified at the start, with one reserve allowed per team. To enter, simply send the names of all the team members to the organisers, stating your college and the email addresses of all team members.

Please refer to the Inter-Collegiate Challenge pages of this website for more details on this year's competition, along with information about past Challenges. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the organisers.

Varsity 2006

The Oxford-Cambridge Varsity Quiz took place on Saturday 11th March, 2006. Cambridge fielded a highly competitive Varsity team comprising David Tite, Daniel Nazarian (captain), Jacob Hupart and Michael Dnes. Despite leading for most of their match, they were sadly beaten by 15 points on the last starter question. However, they put in a brilliant performance; by far the best showing by Cambridge in a Varsity Quiz! The reserve team of Mike Armstrong, Jon Griffith, Christopher Handscomb (captain) and Nathan Kettle also played. Again, they were neck and neck with Oxford for the whole match, losing by 35 points on the last couple of questions. There was some consolation for Cambridge, with the QuizSoc Committee beating their Oxford counterparts by 130 points in a 'battle of the committees'. Sadly this wasn't enough to bring the trophy to Cambridge, but we will be back next year, attempting to capture the cup for the light-blues!
