The Cricketer's Quiz is back: Come along at 21.00 on Tuesday! Pub Quizzes The Bun Shop The Quiz Society runs weekly quizzes at the Bun Shop on King Street. These consist of 8 rounds of 5 questions, along with the ever popular 'puzzle' section in the middle. This varies from week-to-week, but often includes crosswords, number puzzles, picture and observation rounds. The quiz costs £1 per person to enter, with a minimum of £4 per team. The maximum team size is 6. There is a £50 prize for the first placed team each week, with the second placed team receiving a pitcher of beer. The team coming last also gets a 'prize' - a round of drinks of the barman's choice! The Bun Shop quizzes have proved incredibly popular, so from September it will be necessary to sign up in advance in order to guarantee your team a place. You will be able to do this online, or at the bar in the Bun Shop itself. Check back for more details. The Bath House For two years (2004-2006), the Quiz Society ran a popular pub quiz at the Bath House Pub on Bene't Street. The quiz was made up of six rounds of ten questions as well as a picture round and, in later quizzes, the 'Top 10' round. Every week there was a news round covering the past weeks news; a common-link round which often required a little lateral thought; and a pot-luck round, with its infamous 'true or false' question. The remaining three rounds changed each week, and highlights(?) included:
In addition, in the Bath House quizzes we pioneered a unique concept in pub quizzes: members could (and did!) suggest rounds for forthcoming quizzes. However, our expert team of setters always strove to ensure the questions were always engaging and interesting for all. Intercollegiate Quiz Challenge Every year we run and organise the prestigious ICC tournament each Lent term. The Championship is an opportunity for quizzers to play with buzzers and offers excellent practice for those seeking fame on University Challenge, with questions of a similar style. Invitations to submit a team are sent to all members of the society, though nonmembers are equally welcome. For further information on previous tournaments and past winners visit our ICC page. University Challenge Applications to go on the show are usually arranged through each college's JMA or JCR President. If you are interested on appearing on the show and no information has been provided by Easter, contact Granada Production. For those arranging teams, we can offer the hire of University Challenge style buzzers for a small fee and also arrange for questions of varying difficulties, both for holding trials and for practicing if your team is chosen to appear on the show. |
