| GEECD, Lalitpur, Nepal |
£500 |
|
The GEECD (Group for Environmental Education and Community Development) works to improve the lives of children from low-caste backgrounds. 10 girls from the Lalitpur district of Nepal received bursaries, worth £50 each, to cover all fees and materials necessary for them to complete their primary education. GEECD's close attention to the progress of the girls aims to break them out of the cycle of deprivation which often traps the lower-caste communities.

| CAMFED, Zimbabwe |
£990 |
|
To buy 18 bicycles for peer CAMFED health educators. These educators had previously completed high school with the help of CAMFED and then trained to go back to the communities in which they grew up. They educate children and adults about basic sanitation and AIDS, and raise awareness of child abuse and rape, and the importance of education. The bicyles will allow them to make these journeys more effectively and regularly.
