Why 2005?

In 2005 there is a unique set of opportunities to radically change the face of world poverty. There may never again be such a chance for a British Government, with the help of the British public, to transform the world for good. These opportunities include:

The UK hosting the G8 meeting in Gleneagles (6^th-8^th July)
The UK presidency of the EU (July – December)
The UK leading an International Commission for Africa (which published its report on 11^th March)
The 20^th anniversary of Live Aid
The first review of the Millennium Development Goals by the UN (14^th - 16^th September)

But most of all, we’re doing this because no-one has ever before organized a campaign on this scale, and there is no reason why we should wait any longer.
