Dear all,
Thanks to everyone who came out to the HC dinner last Friday, it was good
fun and a great success!
Also, just a reminder about the George Tombs talk coming up next week on
Thursday February 28th at 7pm, more details are below.
Take Care,
Stacey
Dear CCC,
We'd like to invite you to an evening with George Tombs, the Canadian author
of 'Robber Baron: Lord Black of Crossharbour'. George is on a European tour
to promote his book, published last November, and has kindly offered to come
and speak in Cambridge. Given the extensive media coverage and the
roller-coaster nature of Conrad Black's trial, this should be an exciting
and fascinating evening!
The talk will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 7:00 pm at the Scott Polar
Research Institute on Lensfield Road, which is right across from the
Chemistry building. For directions, see
www.spri.cam.ac.uk/contacts/directions/.
George Tombs is an award-winning journalist, and has worked for TV, radio,
newsmagazines, and newspapers, in both English and French. He has reported
first-hand on disappearances, refugees, hostage-takings, terrorists,
aboriginal societies, desert nomads, Nobel-winning scientists, inventors,
and heads of state and government. He served as editorial-writer at the
Montreal Gazette, has produced several documentary series for CBC and
Radio-Canada, and has a PhD in history from McGill University. Tombs is a
contributor to The Guardian about Conrad Black, and has spoken about Black
on CNN, BBC, CBC, CTV, and Global News.
The Independent on Sunday has reviewed his book recently:

and the Times has written on Conrad Black:

We're going to take George to the pub after his talk and hope you'll join us
for that too.
Pencil it into your diaries! We hope to see you there.
Yours,
Tina Sawchuk
