McKinsey & Company is a management consulting firm that helps leading
companies and institutions make distinctive, lasting and substantial
improvements to their performance. With over 6,000 consultants
working in 85 offices in 45 countries, McKinsey advises organisations
worldwide on issues of strategy, organisation, operations and
technology. You will find that we are more interested in the quality
of your achievements than your particular area of studies. What is
most important to us is evidence of success in your chosen field.
People join us from a wide range of disciplines. Working with us,
you will gain exposure to a diverse range of industry sectors and
business issues that will not only enhance your career options, but
also accelerate the pace of your personal development. Further
information regarding McKinsey & Company can be found at our website:
www.mckinsey.com
As a consultant with McKinsey, you will typically work in a team
consisting of 3 to 6 consultants led by a partner. You will play an
active role in all aspects of a client study; fact-gathering,
analysis, development and communication of recommendations,
presentation of results to management, and implementation (if
appropriate). Consultants are assigned to a project full-time.
Both programmes are typically for an 8-10 week continuous period.
Most Summer positions will begin at the end of June. Unfortunately
offices are unable to consider candidates for less than 8 weeks.
If you are interested in applying for a summer position, please apply
on-line at www.mckinsey.com/careers attaching your resume and cover
letter. Your cover letter should demonstrate ties for the office you
are applying as offices wish to see a tie or link with their region.
Our deadline for summer positions applications is 21 January 2007.
We are unable to accept applications after this deadline. An
outline of our interview process is below.
If you are unable to apply for a position, but wish to be kept
informed of other events McKinsey are running through the year,
please let me know and I can add you to our database.
Yours sincerely,
Louise Chapman

INTERVIEW PROCESS
The first stage of our interview process is a 60 minute Initial
Problem Solving Assessment (IPS) to be held in London on 29 and 30
January 2007. The problem solving assessment has been specifically
designed to assess certain basic skills which we believe are
essential elements of success at McKinsey. It does not assume any
particular prior academic or business experience.
If successful with your IPS assessment, you will be asked to attend a
second round, which will consist of 2 x 50 minute and 1 x 30 minute
case study interviews which will take place in our London office on
either 5, 6, or 7 February 2007. Final rounds will take place at a
later date in your destination office.
As part of each interview, you will be asked to discuss a business
case with your interviewer. The best preparation for these case
discussions is to read sample cases - briefing document is attached.
Again, no specific prior business knowledge is assumed, and you can
expect the case discussion to cover both familiar and unfamiliar
business areas. There is also additional opportunity to practice
cases on-line at:
http://wetfeet.com/research/industries/consulting/case.asp We will
also focus on your past experiences giving you the opportunity to
talk about yourself and your accomplishments. In preparation for
these, please think about past experiences where you have been
directly involved and therefore can best demonstrate your behavioural
capabilities. More information regarding preparing for interview can
be found at http://mckinsey.com/aboutus/careers/applyingtomckinsey/
We would also suggest that you take a look at our website
http://mckinsey.com for hints and tips to take you through the
interview process.
There will also be time during your interviews for you to ask
questions about McKinsey & Company.
