Dear all,
A reminder to go ahead and get those cheques in the mail for your
tickets to the annual High Commissioner's dinner coming up on Friday,
February 16th! Tickets are selling fast to both CCC members and
non-members. We do have limited numbers, so get in there, team!
For those who wanted more information about this event (we've been
getting lots of e-mails), here's the deal:
-the food:
starter: Crab meat and smoked salmon ramequin with rocket salad
main: Medallions of Suffolk Venison with Carmelised Apple Segments and Calvados
dessert: Pecan Pie with a Cinnamon Crust served with Chantilly Cream
Coffee and Mints/truffles
(apologies to the vegetarians - your options are equally scrummy,
though I don't have that menu with me...if you want to know, send me
an e-mail!)
-the drink:
Champagne/sparkling wine to start the evening.
Lovely Canadian red and white wines will be served with dinner,
kindly provided by the High Commission. Last year's selections were
really quality Ontarian vintages.
Vintage port after dinner.
(Non-alcoholic bevs will be available too.)
-the company:
Well, this hardly needs mentioning...obviously, The High Commissioner
for Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and his wife will
be in attendance, as will people from all over Cambridge, and even a
few from London and possibly Oxford. Some Canadian, some not, some
CCC members, some not, some students, some not. If last year serves
as any comparison, this event promises to bring a very interesting
mix and opportunity to meet people you might not normally meet.
-the dress:
A clarification on the dress code: although the invitation says
"black tie," we don't expect that everyone will go out and rent tuxes
or buy ball gowns or whatever - suits are great too, so don't let the
dress code scare you off. Go on, engineers/scientists - you can do
it!! (I can say that cause I am one!)
-the locale:
A gorgeous hall in Trinity College.
Tickets for this event (35 for members/40 non) cover an incredible
meal and all drinks. It will be a very memorable evening. Plus, we'll
be going out on "the town" afterward in our swankiest - good times!
Watch out, Cambridge...
See you there.
Cheers,
Mary
