Dear all,

Welcome to winter. Several items on the happenings list this week:

1. The CCC's annual 'cracking' Christmas party is happening this
Thursday, Nov 30th. Be at Sidney Sussex college (Knox Shaw room -
we'll put up signs) any time after 8:30 for mulled wine, festive
treats and good cheer to welcome the Christmas season. This is our
last official event of term, so "pen" it into your calendars. And the
best part: no purchase necessary! Just show up, eat drink and be
merry.
(FYI - Since several people have asked, this is not a dinner event.
Rather than jamming up your already jammed schedules with another
dinner at this time of year, we tend to save it til Feb/March, when
things have slowed down a bit. This is when we'll be having dinner
with the High Commissioner to Canada. More details to follow on that.)

2. For those coming to the High Commissioner's reception this Friday,
December 1st in London: Firstly, you need to have RSVP'd Ian Napier
(ian.napier at international.gc.ca) to say you're coming, and if you
haven't, do so ASAP, as space is very limited. Secondly, after some
discussion, it was decided that it's probably best that we not
arrange group transport, as most people probably won't want to leave
the event/London at the same time to come back. (Plus, a return
journey on the train costs nearly the same amount as a one-way trip,
thus it would be very expensive to charter a bus one way and take the
train back.) So then, let's all meet at the train station in time to
catch the 17:15 direct. (Obviously, please arrive with enough time to
purchase your tickets assuming there will be a long line - for me,
that means 17:00.) The event runs from 18:30 - 20:30 at 3 Grosvenor
Square (Bond Street Underground Stn), so there's potential for a few
beers after. Dress is formal.

3. Another reminder about tonight's Recruitment of Policy Leaders
event, also happening at Sidney Sussex. (Ya, we like it - it's
central.) If you're curious about employment opportunities in the
federal public service, and wouldn't mind a glass of wine, come
along. Runs from 7-9pm in the Knox-Shaw room.

Phew. That's all for now. Hope winter finds you well and looking
forward to the holidays. Hallelujah to that!

Mary
