CALL FOR APPLICATIONS for the 2006-2007
Canada Meets Germany: A Forum for Young Leaders
A Program Organized by the institute for cultural diplomacy
Deadline for applications: June 28th, 2006
BERLIN, April 2006 - The institute for cultural diplomacy is pleased to announce the call for applications for the 2006-2007 Canada Meets Germany: A Forum for Young Leaders (CMG). This year, the program will select 6 German and 6 Canadian participants to join the current young leaders for a one-week exchange in Canada from October 14-22, 2006 that will culminate in a high-profile conference. The program continues the following year in 2007, when participants will again join a new group of young leaders for a one-week exchange in Germany.
Now entering its fourth successful year, Canada Meets Germany seeks to develop lasting relationships between future leaders in the fields of politics, academia, science, media, business, and culture, in order to strengthen bilateral ties between Canada and Germany and to serve as a source of expertise on issues pertinent to both countries. Participants will join a growing network of young leaders committed to an ongoing transatlantic dialogue. Candidates are recruited from every geographic region in Canada and Germany, all ethnic and social groups, and a range of professions, including various business sectors.
>From the 14th to the 22nd of October 2006, participants will take part in a seven-day exchange in Canada with visits to the City of Québec, Montréal, and surrounding regions. The program will consist of multiple components, including:
· guest speakers from the fields of business, government, academia, and technology;
· exposure to various aspects of national culture;
· formal discussions among the participants, with participants leading dialogue in their respective fields;
· informal discussions among the young leaders on important issues facing Canada and Germany; and
· a closing ceremony at a high-profile conference addressing topics consequential to both countries.
Full details on the program as well as selection and application criteria are now available online at www.canadameetsgermany.org. Applications must be sent in no later than June 28th, 2006.
This program is funded primarily by the European Recovery Program of the German Federal Government,
with additional support from the Canadian Embassy in Berlin and a variety of other partners.
