The Organ Scholarship
From Peterhouse Chapel Choir
The Organ Scholarship at Peterhouse demands enthusiasm and talent in equal measure. The two Organ Scholars are solely responsible for training the Choir, conducting and accompanying services, organising music lessons, choir meals, foreign tours and choosing music. It represents one of the best opportunities to develop your own musicianship anywhere in Cambridge.
The organ scholarship is a superb example of its type and the choir successful, ambitious and professional. There can be few better examples of opportunities to develop your choral directing skills anywhere in the UK. Rather than being drawback, the lack of a Director of Chapel music provides a unique opportunity (in Cambridge) to direct a choir of hard-working singers three times a week. Peterhouse offers more conducting experience for its Organ Scholars than any other college in Cambridge.
To audition, all prospective Organ Scholars must enter the Cambridge Organ Scholar Award Competition. Please note the closing date for applications for entry (2013) is 1st September 2012.
Each year, the University runs a 24-hour Open Day for prospective candidates which aims to give an insight into the life of a Cambridge organ scholar. In 2012 the Open Day will take place from 4pm on the 2nd May until c6pm on the 3rd May. Candidates have the chance to see many different colleges and talk to Directors of Music and present organ scholars. An online booking form for the day can be found at here: [1]
