Choral Scholarships and Exhibitions
From Peterhouse Chapel Choir
The Organ Scholars are always interested in auditioning new singers for Peterhouse Chapel Choir. We accept all voice types and are happy to listen to anyone who asks for an audition. Previous choral experience is useful, but not absolutely necessary, whereas competent sight-reading is essential.
There are two ways to join:
- If you are applying to Cambridge University and wish to be considered for a Choral Scholarship, you can apply using the Cambridge University Choral Awards website. Please note the application deadline for entry in 2012 or deferred entry in 2013 is 12th September 2011. In due course, you will be invited up to Cambridge and given an audition at the Music School. Any offer made will be conditional on the academic requirements of gaining a place at Cambridge University. A Choral Scholarship at Peterhouse entitles you to all the benefits of being a chorister and an honorarium of £100 a year.
- If you are already a member of Cambridge University, you can contact the Organ Scholars directly at any time for an audition. If successful, you will be elected to Choral Exhibitioner status, which entitles you to all the benefits of membership and an honorarium of £50 a year.
Auditions generally follow a set pattern:
- Test of range
- Performance of a prepared piece
- Ear tests
- Sight-reading tests
You can read about what it is like to sing in Peterhouse Chapel Choir on the Chorister Profiles page.
Each year, the University holds an Open Day for prospective Choral Scholars. The day offers applicants a chance to see many of the University's chapel choirs in action, and to meet current Choral Scholars.
This year's Choral Award Open Day will take place on Thursday 5th May 2011. More details, and a booking form, can be found here [1]
