Sports & Societies

In addition to the hundreds of clubs and societies which are open to all students in university, there are various clubs and societies which are run by students of Peterhouse. These clubs and societies in Peterhouse are generally informal and relaxed in nature; the main emphasis is on having fun!

The sport clubs regularly participate in intercollegiate competitions to compete against teams from other colleges within the university. Students in Peterhouse have full access to sporting facilities including a squash court (right next to 1st year accommodation), indoor gym (on college site), free pool table and dartboard (in the common room), boathouse and sports ground (both 10min cycle ride away from college). You will find plenty of opportunities to join sport teams in Peterhouse, because we are a small college! Although competition for team places is almost non-existent, most Peterhouse teams reach respectable standards. For example, both table tennis and men’s pool teams were promoted to 1st division recently and continue to play at a competitive level. This year, the women’s hockey, women’s football, and men’s rugby all went on to become Plate Champions.

Societies in Peterhouse range from the academic to the more informal groups. Peterhouse Politics Society has had a distinguished line-up of speakers including Michael Portillo and the German Ambassador, while the Heywood Society has produced a number of shows including the ‘Victimese’ which received national press attention.

Visit the AMALS website for more details on the clubs and societies in Peterhouse.

You will have the opportunity to sign up for various clubs and societies at the Amals Squash in Freshers’ Week. I look forward to seeing you all in October.
